Fostering saves lives!

Fosters provide a loving home and care to an animal for a period of time while all expenses are covered by the shelter. At the Evanston Animal Shelter, we use fosters for a variety of reasons.
For both cats and dogs, we look for foster homes for animals with medical issues (e.g., heartworm, recovery from surgery, hospice care), animals that need constant care (e.g., kittens who need to be bottle-fed regularly), or animals that simply do not adjust well to the shelter environment. We also look for experienced fosters to help animals with particular behavioral issues that need consistent training. Some of these issues include mouthiness, separation anxiety, guarding and dog reactivity.
